Pros and Cons To Epoxy Floors In Your Home

Epoxy floors are very commonly used in industrial and commercial settings. People often wonder if epoxy floors could be a good option in their own homes. Whether it be a garage space or another area of the house, it is best to know the pros and cons of installing epoxy floors. In this guide, we will give you a general idea of why epoxy floors can be great and why sometimes you may be better off choosing a different flooring option.

Pros Of Epoxy Floors

Here are the best benefits to epoxy floors in your home.

  • Easy To Clean: The most common complaint people have about floors is that they can be difficult and annoying to clean. Epoxy floors are effortless to clean. You can sweep and or mop your epoxy floors without it causing any damage to them at all. Most people will put epoxy floors in their garage for this exact reason. When you spill things like gasoline or oil in the garage, the traditional concrete floors will absorb this and leave a permanent stain. With epoxy floors, you simply wipe up and move on with your project.
  • Durable: Epoxy floors are tough. If you are worried about parking your car on your epoxy floor because of how nice it looks, don’t be. Your floor will easily handle your car parking on the floor, and it will handle significant impacts like when your kid knocks their bike over for the four hundredth time. Although a very shart object can potentially damage epoxy floors, it is rare that you will run into this issue.
  • Clean Look: There is no question that the epoxy finish is going to make your room look as though it is complete. You can take a nasty looking old garage and turn it into something that looks like a showroom almost overnight.
  • Safety: As shiny and clean as those floors look, they are not going to be slippery. Epoxy floors are slip-resistant, and they are not nearly as abrasive as concrete flooring. The epoxy floors are not damaged by water, and they work to repel water so that you can simply wipe it up.

Cons of Epoxy Flooring

Now that you know and understand how great an epoxy floor can be in your home, it is time to discuss the cons. The good news is that this list is not going to be very long. There is only one downside to epoxy flooring, and that is the installation process.

The installation process requires a good amount of prep work to even get to the point of being able to put epoxy down. Hi,
We are putting in old barn boards that we had tongue and grooved in our kitchen. Would an epoxy work on wood instead of a varnish? It sounds like the epoxy coating would make the floor super easy to clean. We need some help with this.
Thanks,
Pam
